GraphCore™ GC1004 – Graphene Nanoplatelets for High-Performance Composites
THE GC1004 belongs to the family GraphCore™, Developed by Black Swan Graphene, this technology represents a generation of graphene nanoplatelets specifically formulated to facilitate industrial adoption in engineering materials.
Produced through a patented surfactant-assisted liquid exfoliation process, the GC1004 It uses selected graphite that undergoes dispersion in an aqueous medium with non-ionic surfactants (~3%), resulting in thin graphene sheets with high surface area and excellent chemical stability.
This method surpasses oxidation-based technologies (GO/rGO), maintaining the structural integrity of sp2 carbon and avoiding harmful oxidative residues.
Advanced technical features:
- Nanometer thickness and modal laterality of ~5 µm
- Reduction of structural defects (low ID/IG ratio in Raman)
- High surface area to volume ratio
- Compatible with thermoplastics, thermosets, and elastomers.
- Supplied with industrial batch control (standardized quality)
Production Process
THE GraphCore™ GC1004 It is produced by a standardized liquid exfoliation process according to ISO standards, using carefully selected high-purity graphite dispersed in an aqueous medium with non-ionic surface agents. This process engineering, based on precise chemical and energy control, guarantees graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) of consistent quality, available in different industrial formats, dispersion, powder or masterbatch, with excellent reproducibility and performance.

How can I use GC1004 in my process?
Incorporation strategies
Via masterbatch
-
-
- Create a concentrate (e.g., 10 % of GC1004 in PP, PE, PA, TPU).
- Use the masterbatch in dosages of 2–10 %, resulting in 0.2–1 % of final graphene.
-
Advantages:
-
-
- greater uniformity of dispersion, simpler dosage,
- possibility of using the same MB in different products.
-
Direct addition in composting / extrusion
-
-
- Dose the powder directly into the extruder feeder or internal mixer.
-
It is recommended:
-
-
- premixing in dry blend with the granulated polymer,
- dust control and local exhaust,
- Use sufficient rotation and temperature for good dispersion.
-
Dispersion in solvent / liquid medium
-
-
- For paints, varnishes and coatings, disperse the GC1004 in liquid phase under high energy (Cowles, bead mill or ultrasound) before adding to the final formulation.
-
Suggested concentration ranges
Mechanical reinforcement in thermoplastics:
-
- starting point: 0.2–0.5 % m/m,
- For more demanding applications: up to 1.0 % m/m.
Barrier properties (packaging, coatings):
-
- 0.3–0.8 % m/m, depending on the film thickness.
Electrical properties (ESD/antistatic):
-
- Start at 0.5–1.5 % m/me and adjust according to target resistivity.
Practical recommendation: start with a 3-point study (e.g., 0.25 %, 0.5 %, and 1.0 %) and evaluate the balance between mechanical properties, rheology, and cost. The SuperGrafeno team can help design this DOE.
